There were 61,010 vehicle-deer crashes in the state in 2008, down slightly from 61,907 reported in 2007. According to the Michigan Deer Crash Coalition, however, as many as half of vehicle-deer crashes may not be reported, so actual numbers may be much higher. Last year, 12 motorists lost their lives in car crashes, while another 1,648 persons were injured. In 2007, 11 motorists were killed in crashes with deer.
